Southend Amateur Boxing Club has a proud and storied history stretching back to circa 1914, when the legendary Eugene Corri first took the reins. Corri, a true pioneer of the sport, was not only one of the first referees inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame, but he also revolutionised refereeing itself — introducing professionalism, fairness, and authority to the ring at a time when the sport was still finding its identity.
When war broke out, Southend’s young boxers put their gloves aside and took up arms, standing shoulder to shoulder in defence of Queen and Country. From the trenches of the First World War to the frontlines of the Second, the club’s values of discipline, courage, and resilience were carried into battle by its members.
It was back to business in 1948 with the renowned Pat O'Keefe taking charge, and we have been producing national champions ever since.
Our coaches use their vast experience and expertise within the squared circle to provide you with all the tools you need to excel at the sport of boxing. Why not check out our roll of honor to see our champions past and present.
